Night Madrid. Columbus square (Plaza de Colón)

I started my second evening photo shoot in Madrid at the Columba square, where the Recoletos and Castellana boulevards, Goya and Genoa streets converge.

The Towers Of Columbus (Torre Colon). Residents of Madrid consider this building the ugliest structure in the city.

To the right of the massive glass box, the elegant building of the Crédit Agricole Bank, decorated with a clock tower, is brightly illuminated.

The monument to Christopher Columbus was opened in October 1882, on the occasion of the four-hundredth anniversary of the discovery of America. The authors of the monument are Arturo Mélida and jerónimo Suñol.

Высота монумента 17 метров, он выглядит впечатляюще даже на фоне небоскреба.

Until 2009, the monument stood in the South-Eastern corner of the square, where only the pool of the fountain remained, and a round pedestal with steps - a wonderful place from which you can make a circular panorama of the square.

From the East, the square is bordered by the garden of Discovery (Jardines del Descubrimiento), where there is a modern monument to the Discovery of America by Joaquin Vaquero Turcios, opened in 1977.
